|

I don't know about anyone else, but I love the whole Action/Adventure, Sci-fi theme.
I can't get enought of these types of movies.... I am even considering installing mortorized doors throughout my home so that they slide open for me (via motion sensor) as I approach.
Is anyone else here as weird as I am? ... Really? _________________ pfffffft |

I thought I was the only one who watches the scifi channel LOL, Anyone like the new battlestar galactica? How do you feel it rates to the classic Battlestar ? _________________ The best way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it! -O.Wylde

|

I would highly recommend watching the science-fiction TV series called "Babylon 5" if you can find it at your video store, netflicks, or in reruns. The Sci-Fi channel has been known to run the whole series from start to finish. At first, I did not like the show, but when I watched it as reruns, it really drew me in. The storyline and characters are compelling. I thought some of the episodes dealt with some fairly profound spiritual/metaphysical lessons.
In love and light,

I too love sci-fi. Automatic doors could be sweet.
Stargate is one of my favorite sci-fi series. Too bad it doesn't air in Finland. At least not now, it has a year ago. |

I'll watch almost any type of show or movie, it just has to catch my attention.
Though, for this thread, I like shows like X-FILES, Charmed, Angel, etc. (Never really got into Buffy, though.) |

| Depends on the movie. Normally I'm not a big fan of action/sci-fi...but sometimes, I find myself enjoying one...like Star Wars...or the Fifth Element... |

Anyone seen Dark City? It's directed by Alex Proyas, who did The Crow. It's not pure sci/fi. Sci/fi is only a fraction of what it is.
And what do people consider to be the best sci/fi fimls of all time?
I quite enjoy Star Wars (only 1977-1983) and Dune, but first of all I'm not sure if they classify properly as sci/fi.
I find a lot of newer sci/fi stuff to be less satisfactory. _________________ "Without music life would be a mistake" - Friedrich Nietzsche |

My favorite is "2001: A Space Odyssey," which was a brilliant movie, directed by a brilliant director. I worked for a year on its sequel, "2010: The Year We Make Contact," which wasn't.
I still love 2001, I could watch it for hours. Luckily, it's long enough for me to do that.
I love "Star Wars," but it's technically not science-fiction. There's no sound in space, and spacecraft don't swoop and bank like that, out of atmosphere.
(My favorite moment for anti-science spaceship nonsense is in "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," when the buzzdroids get "blown off" Anakin's little spaceship. Very funny, George.)
"Dune" could be science-fiction, it's all pretty well explained, and has a basis in science, except for the sandworms, which would dehydrate in about twenty minutes, into worm jerky.
Both those would more properly be described as "space fantasy," but I enjoy them anyway. The "Star Wars" films are the last links to the classic age of Hollywood adventure films, so I love 'em.
"Close Encounters" had more of a hard-science feel to it, except that the aliens apparently travel the vastness of space with the London Symphony Orchestra on board.
Other science-fiction works I appreciate have yet to be made. I love Robert Heinlein's books, and don't really think they've yet made a good movie from any of them. Good effects in "Starship Troopers," but they gutted the book to make it a movie about big bugs. Too bad.

Does anyone remember the Space Quest games? I always wished there could be a movie or movies made out of them... they were so great in their time.
I grew up with sci-fi and fantasy so it's pretty much all I like. At first it kinda drove my girlfriend crazy but now she's even into it like I am.
Of course there are a lot of great movies out there especially more recent ones because of special fx but there are some great old movies as well... like Forbidden Planet, IMO all sci-fi junkies should put on their must see list. |

| I'm not that weird I would say but I like that category. My favourite sci-fi movie is The Matrix. First one of trilogy is one of my favourite movies also. Second one is also good but too confusing. I love those action scenes. The Matrix Revolutions is boring in my opinion. Too much of those sentinel scenes. |

I think the classic that should take credit for the off shoots and others like it is . . . 'Star Trek'. I can remember when it first came on the air. Watched every show. It was not very popular. I was living in LA at the time and I remember that when the TV show was finally taken off the air my next door neighbor, Jon Povil, was writing a script for the 1st movie. He was co-writing it and had so many ideas but not a great plot. He told me that Nimoy was the only one they were having trouble with in agreeing to do the movie. Jon kept writing for many months and finally Nimoy agreed to do the movie which made everyone of the cast very happy. Eventually the 1st Star Trek movie came out with much fanfare and i was lucky to see a screening. I also remember Jon telling me that the 'Bridge' from the TV show was wasting away at UCLA outside somewhere on campus. What a shame. I don't know what ever happened to it. Oh yeah, Jon got credit in the film. I think for assistant executive producer and his (then) girlfriend was in the opening scene where a ship is being destroyed and she's on deck as a communication officer just before it blows up. |
